The Awards ceremony was held on the evening of International Nurses Day, Wednesday 12 May 2004, at the Victoria University Conference Centre in Flinders Street Melbourne.

After John de Haard, Managing Director of HealthStaff Recruitment welcomed all guests, Federal Minister for Health & Ageing, The Hon Tony Abbott officially opened the ceremony and also presented the National Care Awards to six state finalists and a national winner. Judith McGrath, star of Channel Seven’s All Saints, was a special guest of the evening, and presented three students with prizes for the Student Achievement Awards. HESTA representative Bruce Stafford was on hand to award two finalists and one major award recipient with postgraduate scholarships for the HESTA Professional Development Scholarships category.
