Laerdal

Established in 1940, Laerdal is dedicated to helping save lives. Our quality training and therapy products, services, and system solutions support the sequence of events known as the Chain of Survival. The Chain of Survival is focused on saving lives after sudden cardiac arrest. It has four links; early access to help, early CPR, early defibrillation and early Advanced Life Support.

Nurses and nursing educators play a critical role in the Chain of Survival, and Laerdal is very proud to sponsor the Australian Nursing Awards 2005. Our company is committed to stimulating interest in nursing as a career, enhancing the retention of nurses, and in particular, ensuring the highest quality education and training of the nursing workforce.

Throughout the world, Laerdal’s range of training manikins, airway management devices, spinal immobilisation products, defibrillators and educational materials is utilised by health care professionals every day. To date, Resusci Anne and her family of manikins have taught the lifesaving skills of CPR to more than 200 million people worldwide. Laerdal has introduced several other ground breaking products to the world. Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing

Are you interested in a nursing career in rural or remote health? There is support available to help you realise your ambitions.

The Australian Government Rural and Remote Nurse Scholarship Program offers incentives to nurses wishing to pursue or build on a career in rural or remote area nursing. The program consists of four different scholarship schemes:

  • Re-entry and Upskilling Scheme: for registered and enrolled nurses whose registration has lapsed and for currently registered and enrolled nurses to undertake practical/clinical training and job skill enhancement.

  • Postgraduate Scheme: for registered and enrolled nurses to undertake continuing professional development activities and attend conferences.

  • Undergraduate Scheme: for students currently undertaking or intending to enrol in fulltime study in an undergraduate nursing course at a rural campus of an Australian University.

  • EN to RN Scheme: for enrolled nurses to undertake part time study in an undergraduate nursing course at a rural campus of an Australian university.

The Australian Government Aged Care Nursing Scholarship Scheme aims to increase the skills of nurses working in regional and rural Australia in the aged care sector. Undergraduate scholarships are available for people from regional and rural areas to undertake an undergraduate nursing course at a rural campus of an Australian university. The scheme also provides scholarships to registered and enrolled nurses for continuing professional development programs about nursing practice in aged care.

The scholarship schemes are administered on behalf of the Australian Government by the Royal College of Nursing, Australia. For more information about these schemes please see www.rcna.org.au

Australian Nursing Federation

Australian Nursing Federation

The ANF is pleased to support the Australian Nursing Awards (ANA’s). With 130,000 members Australia wide, the ANF understands the importance of celebrating nursing and nurses. We know there are many unsung heroes in the profession who are worthy of awards, nurses who work tirelessly for their patients and their profession. The ANA’s acknowledge individual nurses’ efforts in the pursuit of excellence. Through publicly highlighting individual nurses’ achievements, the image of nurses and nursing is enhanced.

Nurses do not generally ask for thanks but we all know the pleasure a note of appreciation from patients brings us. The ANA’s are a way for the industry and our own profession to say thank you and to acknowledge what nurses deem important - excellence, commitment, and skill. Recognition is an important part of satisfaction in a chosen career. The need has never been more acute in nursing as it is today with the numbers of practicing nurses dwindling across the country. The ANA’s provide recognition from within nursing, from our peers.

Any honour that is bestowed on nurses and creates public awareness of the dedication and achievement of the profession is worthy of support. The ANF was part of the inaugural awards and is happy to continue our association.

Royal College of Nursing (RCNA)

The RCNA, a national professional member organisation, was originally established in Melbourne in March 1949 – to provide post-registration nursing courses to prepare experienced general nurses for leadership positions within the profession.

Back then, those who played a key role in the activities of the College were devoted to enhancing the reputation and professional standing of nursing. They did this through consistently pursuing a campaign which sought to ensure that those who taught nursing were highly educated and competent, and that the voice of nurses was heard at all levels of public-sector and private-sector decision making in the provision of healthcare.

These days, the College (with its national office now located in Canberra), maintains a membership base which comprises clinicians in every setting in which nurses practice, as well as academics and educators in all spheres of nursing education; researchers of all fields of nursing endeavour; managers of the full range of health care facilities, lawyers, bureaucrats, and politicians.

And while the College is still ‘devoted to enhancing the reputation and professional standing of nursing’, our role has expanded to include acting as a policy formation and advisory body to deal with issues of relevance to nursing and to nurses generally; including the promotion of ‘life long learning’ – through programs for both members and non-members alike – plus various workshops, seminars, and our highly successful Nursing Careers, Education and Employment Expos.

With a mission ‘to benefit the health of the community through promotion and recognition of professional excellence in nursing’, the College’s objectives are driven by the aim of cultivating and maintaining the highest principles of nursing. And with this in mind, RCNA is both pleased and honoured to be associated with the Australian Nursing Awards.
