| ROLE SUMMARY |
To assess the eligibility for cover by Travel Insurance of those travellers who declare pre-existing medical conditions, or whom are elderly; and to deliver the highest level of customer service to all travellers |
| KEY DELIVERABLES |
What does this job exist to ensure happens?
- accurately determining the likelihood of a deterioration in the health, illness, injury, or medical complication during the travellers' intended journey overseas, relative to their health, age, length of stay and intended destination
- demonstrating global knowledge by identifying particular destinations where increased risk exists
- identifying levels of health cover appropriate to the traveller's medical conditions
- ensuring that the administrative requirements are met in relation to contractual requirements, financial management, customer service and business reporting
- ensuring that all compliancy requirements are fulfilled in the issuing of Statements of Advice, ie. Code of Practice; the APRA requirements; the FSR Act 2001; the ACCC
- providing support, encouragement and the sharing of knowledge with all team members

| KEY CHALLENGES |
- accurately assess the Applications for Special Medical Clearance within four working days of receipt of the completed form
- respond to the traveller in writing using the pre-formed documentation
- accurately maintain travellers’ records on appropriate spreadsheets
- maintain a document retrieval system
- accurately answer internal and external enquiries regarding the medical underwriting process
- ensure that all payments are identified and passed to the administration staff for processing

| EXPERIENCE REQUIRED |
- practical nursing experience
- specialised knowledge of hypertension, diabetes, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, pregnancy, and their impact on health
- a specialised knowledge of the effect of age on disease, injury and general health
- must have travelled extensively overseas
- a knowledge of global environments including climate, altitude and health services, and their impact on the health of travellers
- an understanding of the logistics of international medical retrieval, including stretcher, life support, oxygen needs, etc.
- a detailed understanding of the brochure conditions relating to medical cover
- demonstrated knowledge and understanding of general insurance principles including all compliancy requirements
- thorough and accurate skills in the use of computers (MS Office and e-mail), including typing correspondence and the preparation of reports

| QUALIFICATIONS & TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED |
- nursing degree (or equivalent), plus current registration with the Queensland Nursing Council, plus practical nursing experience.
- specialised knowledge of hypertension, diabetes, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, pregnancy, and their impact on health.
