Nursing
in Melbourne
A Family Experience |
|
My husband and I arrived
in January 2004, with the intention of staying
for only 12 months, and it was through HealthStaff
Recruitment that the initial point of contact
started. Although we tried to obtain employment
in Queensland and being very specific about what
I wanted to do in terms of area of specialty,
I was not deterred that there would be other opportunities
in other parts of Australia.
After my initial telephone
conversation with Joey from HealthStaff Recruitment
and a firm offer of employment for 12 months from
my current employer, we were on our way to Melbourne
within a short time. I started working in January
of this year as an Emergency Nurse. The first
few months were initially challenging and more
about understanding processes, protocols, and
systems of a
large organisation,
which
|
eventually
impact
on your current nursing practice.
Six months later,
it is getting easier but you continue to learn
and improve to obtain better patient outcomes
all the time. Our family enjoys Melbourne very
much and what the city has to offer, culturally,
socially and the standard of living is good. Although
we love New Zealand, our home country, we also
like to travel and believe Melbourne will be a
good base to visit the rest of Australia.
We are grateful for
HealthStaff Recruitment as they have been and
remain attentive towards ensuring we have a good
experience in Australia and I would recommend
any other health professional who may be interested
in seeking employment in Australia.
Sharon Dickinson,
RN Division 1
