Greetings from Adelaide! My name is Phil,
and I'm working in Cardiothoracic Recovery, at the Royal
Adelaide Hospital in South Australia.
My association with HealthStaff Recruitment
began while I was working a nursing assignment in Far
North Queensland via another recruitment agency. Having
come from Adelaide, I was looking to secure a new position
there on my return. I requested several agencies to
find a suitable position for me, one of those being
HealthStaff Recruitment. All up, the team from HealthStaff
Recruitment responded the quickest and handled the process
competently and efficiently, and as a result I gained
a short-term contract in the Cardiothoracic Recovery
Unit of the Royal Adelaide Hospital in January 2003.
|
Working in this unit has been a very challenging and
rewarding experience. The unit deals with the management
of cardiac and thoracic surgical patients

after their departure from theatre, throughout the
recovery phase, and until their transfer to the step-down
unit. Waking and weaning from ventilation, haemodynamic
stabilisation and management
|
of postoperative complications are the
major elements of work in my unit.
A great deal of autonomy is afforded to
the nursing staff, whose work is guided by extensively
developed care protocols. Support from medical and senior
nursing staff is plentiful and readily given. The nature
of the unit means that new learning experiences are
assured!
I have had a great time in Cardiothoracic
Recovery at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. The staff are
not only great to work with, but they also have a healthy
recreational ethic, enjoying regular unit social outings.
I have since become a permanent staff
member of
|
the Royal Adelaide Hospital, and intend to further
my skills in my area of practice through further study.
I would recommend my unit to any prospective registered
nurses thinking of coming to Adelaide to experience
the relaxed and flexible lifestyle available in this
flourishing city, and wishing to try out a most fascinating
area of practice. Thanks for finding me this great position
HealthStaff!

Kelly
I'm a Kiwi born and bred, but my father happened to
spend the first 2 years of his life in England, in a little tin pot
town (trust me I felt the urge to visit it
never
again) in Lancashire called Rawtenstall. This means
that I was able to apply for a British passport with
relative ease and having done so I've made my way over
here to London. I've been in London now for about 10
or 11 months (my how time flies when you stop to think
about it!) and I'd be lying if I said I've loved every
minute of it, but it has grown on me.
Since arriving here I've been doing temping assignments,
as this has allowed me to travel around some of Europe,
of which I've done a 35 day camping (what was I thinking!)
whirl wind tour of places including France, Spain, Italy,
Greece, Austria, Germany and Holland.
|
Previous
to coming to London I worked at Wellington
Hospital, where I was part of a team that recruited
junior doctors or RMOs, so I know about the health
industry and recruitment.
I'm hoping to learn a whole lot more in this position.
So far, everyone has been very patient with me and I'm
starting to settle into the role and feel I'm going
to thoroughly enjoy it once I get into the swing of
things.
This however, has been interrupted by my travel plans
made before I got the position here at HealthStaff Recruitment.
I am headed home on the 31st January to spend 2 weeks
catching up with family and friends. However, I am really
looking forward to coming back and meeting Joey from
the Melbourne office. I also enjoyed meeting John just
before I left.

Tara
I hail from sunny Brisbane in
Queensland and also have a British Passport, so
who knows how long I'll be here in tropical (Haha)
London! I have only been abroad for 3 months so
I haven't seen all that much really - but I have
been to Ireland twice because I love it there
rolling green hills; tiny pubs in small towns
where the resident pub dog takes centre stage
by the fire place; great people; beautiful scenery
and my favourite - Irish stew!
I
am loving my time in London so far, and was
very excited to see my first snow ever on the
28th of January!
My background
is in employment services / recruitment and training
within Australia's Job Network, and I am now
|
enjoying learning all
about nursing. It is very satisfying to be able
to help people achieve their dream of living and
working in another country - I can relate to this
having made the trek across the planet myself!
It's
a great feeling to be part of the excitement when
one of my candidates receives a job offer that
will allow them to enjoy everything that Australia
and
New Zealand has to offer.
I look forward to working with
you!
Tara

Employee
Spotlight -
Suzanne Jones
In late October last year I
joined HealthStaff Recruitment as a recruitment consultant.
Having worked in overseas recruitment for the past 4
years I was fortunate to already have an understanding
of visas, the amount of organisation involved and more
importantly the emotions and worries people can encounter
when relocating interstate or abroad.
|
that this may well be an important turning point in
their lives and an experience they will never forget.
It's wonderful to be able to promote Australia and
the prospects available for nurses. Not to mention having
the opportunity to meet and talk with nurses from all
over the world on a daily basis. The most rewarding
feeling though would have to be receiving feedback from
hospitals and nurses on how they are enjoying their
new positions and Australian life.
I look forward to the next social evening when I can
put a face to some of the voices that I feel I have
come to know so well. It's always interesting to hear
the comparisons in work places around the world and
find out how people are getting on. It can be very informative
as a local, hearing how people are enjoying life in
our cities and their impressions of accommodation, places
they have visited, new friends they've made and future
plans

Assisting nurses secure employment contracts with hospitals
gives me a sense of excitement as I remember the times
I relocated to live in Queensland and Japan and all the
excitement, anxiety, homesickness and adjustment that
I went through at the time. It's such a great feeling
telling someone about their new position and knowing |

| News
from London
It's
all happening in London. Tara and Kelly have joined
our London Team recently and they are the busiest consultants
in town.
Many UK and Irish Nurses are planning two summers in
a row and like to work in Australia or New Zealand before
the next European winter. Our Melbourne Team is therefore
assisting our London colleagues, so don't be surprised
if you are in the UK or Ireland and receiving a call
from our Melbourne Team! Joey Cooney, our Business Manager
from Melbourne is in London until the end of February
to assist the London consultants. The last group of
Social Workers from New Zealand and Australia has arrived
in London at Lambeth Social Services. Most new arrivals
are trying to get used to the English weather, but it
seems that everybody is settling in very well.
Watch this space for an invitation for drinks in London
for our Social Workers and Nurses.
HAPPY
EASTER
To all our Clients and Candidates -
We hope you have a lovely break.
