Fellowship Pathway for GPs via AHPRA Expedited Specialist Pathway

News from the RACGP

Fellowship

A new Fellowship option is now available for GPs who have successfully completed the Medical Board of Australia’s (MBA) Expedited Specialist Pathway. These doctors have already demonstrated that they meet general practice specialist registration requirements through a rigorous MBA process.

Further information, including the policy that guides admission requirements, can be found here.

Through Fellowship, these experienced, internationally trained GPs will gain:

  • a professional home within the RACGP community
  • access to CPD, peer support, and resources to help them thrive in practice
  • opportunities to contribute to the profession through leadership, supervision, and education.

This initiative:

  • connects experienced internationally trained GPs with the RACGP and our standards
  • recognises the MBA’s rigorous pathway, which ensures substantial equivalence to Australian-trained GPs
  • provides a clear and supportive pathway to Fellowship
  • supports Australia’s GP workforce needs without compromising quality or safety.

By offering Fellowship, we are closing an important gap, reducing professional isolation, and supporting the safe integration of internationally trained GPs into Australian general practice. Most importantly, this strengthens our ongoing commitment to being the professional home for all GPs across the country.
